How We Work
Every news site has a policy page full of jargon. This is simpler. This is our promise to you, and to ourselves.
We chase the real story.
Facts are important, but they're not enough. The real story is in the context—the why and the how. We dig for that. We check our sources, we verify claims, and we don't just repeat what powerful people say.
Independence is our bottom line.
This is the whole reason we started this site. We don't answer to advertisers, investors, or political parties. Nobody tells us what to cover or what to write. That means we're free to follow the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
We are not activists.
Our job isn't to tell you what to think. It's to lay out the facts as fairly and completely as we can, so you can make up your own mind. We believe the most powerful tool is a well-informed reader.
We own our errors.
We're going to get things wrong sometimes. It's inevitable. When we do, we won't pretend it didn't happen. We'll correct the mistake, and we'll be upfront about it. You can see the process for that here: Correction Policy.
This is the standard we hold ourselves to. It’s the only way we know how to do this job right.
